Introduction
You have the ability to print labels directly to DYMO LabelWriters. These can be Rx labels, cage card labels, patient labels, client labels, and inventory labels. This article explains the installation process of DYMO software, and the configuration setup needed for Pulse.
Importing information
- DYMO currently only supports printing from Windows OS and Mac OS.
- You will need a Windows or Mac computer to print labels. *DYMO will not work with windows 7*
- Other OS's such as Android, iOS, and ChromeOS are not supported by the direct DYMO integration.
DYMO Hardware Setup
Recommended LabelWriters
The recommended DYMO LabelWriters are:
- DYMO LabelWriter 400 * will not support Windows 10 *
- DYMO LabelWriter 450
- DYMO LabelWriter 450 Turbo
- DYMO LabelWriter Wireless

Note: The DYMO 550 and 550 Turbo printers are NOT compatible with our DYMO label integration. You will need to install DYMO Connect per the instructions that came with the printer instead of following these steps. Please click here for more information on label templates for these printers.
Installation
Perform the following steps to install DYMO software version 8x.
- Click on the link below that matches up with the type of computer you are using. If you are using ChromeOS, Android, iOS, Linux, or another platform that isn't listed, then DYMO Label Software is not available.

Windows: DLS8Setup8.7.4.exe
Mac: DLS8Setup.8.7.5.dmg
Note: The following steps are for installation on a Windows PC.
- When the file has finished downloading, open the Windows File Explorer. Click on the Downloads folder and double-click on the .exe file to install the DYMO Label Software.
- Based on your browser being used, you may need to allow access for DYMO Label Framework. When prompted, click on the desired options to always allow.
- Select appropriate language.
- Click OK.
- Click Install.
- Click Next.
- Read DYMO license agreement and select I accept the terms... then click Next.
- It is recommended to install in the default Destination Folder. Click Next.
- It is recommended to go with Complete as the setup type. Click Next.
- Click Install.
- Click Finish once installation is complete.
- Plug in the Label Writer to desired machine to add the printer to the computer’s devices.
Mac OS information
- Chrome version 45 (and higher) on Mac OS is supported on DYMO software to version 8.5.3 or higher.
- Mac OS 10.7.5 must install an earlier version of DYMO the DYMO Label Writer: http://download.dymo.com/dymo/Software/Mac/DLS8Setup.8.5.1.dmg
- A recent Chrome update has caused the Dymo integration to fail with Mac OS. For more info click here
Printer Setup
Based on the setup of the office, you may have a DYMO Print Server, network printers, or shared printers.
Please Note: It is the client’s responsibility to manage and maintain their printer setup, but here are a few guidelines to review when sharing printers. Covetrus Support is not able to set this up for the practice. Please refer to your local IT.
Sharing the Printer (Windows OS)
If you have one DYMO LabelWriter and you want to make it available for other computers in your network, you can share the printer so that it can be detected by other computers not connected directly to the printer. You can share the printer during installation or by going into the printer properties, as explained below.

- Navigate to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the DYMO printer and select Printer Properties.
- Click on Sharing tab.
- Click box for Share this printer. Enter Share name.
- Click box for Render print jobs on client computers.
- Click Apply and OK.

Adding a Network/Shared Printer
If your computer/device is on the same network as the shared printer, you should be able to install it on your local PC. The easiest way is to search for it.
- Navigate to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Click on Add a printer. A search will begin and populate any local or shared printers it can find.
- If the shared DYMO printer appears, select it and click Next.
- A window should appear indicating that the printer has been installed successfully. Click Next and Finish.
If the printer was not detected, you can try to enter it in manually by performing the following steps:
- Navigate to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Click on Add a printer.
- Click on The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Click Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings. Click Next.
- Click Create a new port and select Local Port from the drop-down list. Click Next.
- Enter the path for the Port Name. ex. \\servername\Printershare
- Select DYMO as Manufacturer. Select desired label writer version from the list. Click Next.
- Click Next and use driver that is currently installed.
- Enter Printer name (or leave default). Click Next.
- Click on Do not share this printer and click Next. Click Finish when done.
