Accessing the lab dashboard
You can access the lab dashboard by opening Pulse in your browser and selecting “Labs” from the left hand navigation bar. An indicator next to the Labs section will display the number of unviewed lab results.
Viewing a lab order or lab result
When viewing lab orders or results on the lab dashboard, you can access the order details page by clicking on the lab order row, or using the action menu icon () and selecting View Order Details from the action menu.
Creating a lab order
From the lab dashboard, click the "Place New Order" button in the top right.
On the flyout menu, fill in the patient name and the lab item being ordered.
Click "continue." You will be automatically redirected to your new lab order.
Beneath the client and patient information, under "Order Details," select an appropriate provider and add any comments to the lab order.
When you've ensured all information is correct, click "Submit Order" in the bottom right corner.
When refreshing the page, order status will show as "Submitted"
Your order will also appear as submitted on the lab dashboard.
Searching lab orders and lab results
When viewing the lab dashboard, you can click on the search box next to the magnifying glass icon to search by tests ordered. The dashboard will dynamically load orders or results that contain the search term.
Filtering lab orders and lab results
You can filter orders and results by clicking on the filter icon at the top of the dashboard (). The filtering menu will appear, allowing you to filter by Provider Name, Type/Lab, and Order Status.
When selecting one or more filters, the dashboard will dynamically display only relevant orders or results.
To clear filters, you can unselect filters from the filter menu, or you can use the quick filter buttons at the top of the dashboard to clear some or all of the currently active filters.
There is also a date range drop down that will allow for easier management of most recent orders and results. This will default to 14 days upon activation, but can be changed on the fly.
Cancelling lab orders from the lab dashboard
When viewing lab orders on the lab dashboard, you can quickly cancel an order by clicking on the action menu icon () and selecting Cancel Order.
Deleting lab results from the lab dashboard
When viewing lab results on the lab dashboard, you can quickly delete a result by clicking on the action menu icon () and selecting Delete Lab Result.
Unassigned lab results
To view only unassigned results, you can select Unassigned from the filter presets.
To quickly filter by unassigned results, there is also a quick filter button at the top of the dashboard that will filter by only unassigned results.
Clicking the quick filter again will clear the “unassigned” filter and show all lab results.
Assign a lab result to a patient/order
If a lab result is not associated with a patient, you can assign the result to a patient by clicking on the action menu icon () and selecting Assign to Patient.
The assign to patient menu will appear, allowing you to search for the correct patient and assign the result to an existing lab order. Once a patient/client is selected, the available lab orders will automatically appear in the lab order dropdown. Select the appropriate order and click Save.
Mark a lab result as viewed or not viewed
If you want to mark an unviewed lab result as viewed, you can click on the action menu icon () and select Mark as Viewed. This will update the result status to “Viewed.”
If a lab result is already marked as viewed but you want to mark it as unviewed, you can click on the action menu icon () and select Mark as Not Viewed. This will update the result status to “Not Viewed.”
Go to a patient’s medical record from the lab dashboard
To quickly navigate to a patient’s medical record:
You can click on the patient’s name in the “Patient” column.
You can also click on the action menu icon () and select Go to Medical Record.
