This article explains how to set up your tax rates.
Only users with a Business Owner or Business Manager Employee Role can access these settings.
Note: Covetrus cannot advise on appropriate tax rates. For questions, please consult with a licensed accountant.
- Click on Menu > Settings > Billing > Payments from the sidebar.
- Go to the section labeled Tax Setup.
- Set up your taxes based on the Tax Type:

- Practice: Applies taxes to all transactions practice-wide.
- City: Applies tax rates based on the city in a client's address.
- County: Applies tax rates based on the county in a client's address.
- State: Applies tax rates based on the state in a client's address.
- Client Classification: Applies tax rates based on the Client Classification assigned to a client.

Practice Tax Setup
- Type: Practice.
- Sales Tax: Enter the appropriate tax levels your practice must charge in decimal form (i.e., 5% is 0.05).
- Use Level 2 Tax Rate?: For separate tax rates such as Service Tax.
- Use Level 3 Tax Rate?: For separate tax rates.

Show accumulative tax totals?: Turning this setting on will enable invoices and payment screens to display an accumulative tax total. Turning this setting off will enable invoices and payment screens to display individual tax totals and rates, broken down by tax level, on your invoices and payment screens.

City Tax Setup

Type: City.
- When this type is Enabled, a section named "Tax Rates" will appear below.
- Sales Tax: Applying a Tax Rate here will set a tax for any clients that do not have a Tax Specific City. (Enter in decimal form, i.e., 5% is 0.05)
- Use Level 2 Tax Rate?: Applying a Tax Rate here will set a tax for any clients that do not have a Tax Specific City. (Enter in decimal form, i.e., 5% is 0.05)
- Use Level 3 Tax Rate?: Applying a Tax Rate here will set a tax for any clients that do not have a Tax Specific City. (Enter in decimal form, i.e., 5% is 0.05)

Show accumulative tax totals?: Turning this setting on, will enable invoices and payment screens to display an accumulative tax total. Turning this setting off will enable invoices and payment screens to display individual tax totals and rates, broken down by tax level, on your invoices and payment screens.

County Tax Setup

Type: County.
- When this type is Enabled, a section named "Tax Rates" will appear below.

- Use Level 3 Tax Rate?: Applying a Tax Rate here will set a tax for any clients that do not have a Tax Specific County. (Enter in decimal form, i.e., 5% is 0.05)

State Tax Setup
