There are a few ways to effectively search for client and patient records within Pulse. Click below to navigate to the section in the article.
Quick Search
Allows you to quickly and easily search for an ACTIVE client or patient by the patient's name, client last name, or client first name. (*This will not include inactive clients and/or patients)
Client/Patient Search
|
The Client and Patient Search contains logic to narrow or broaden the search results.
- The search accepts letters, numbers, special characters, and spaces.
- It also provides the flexibility to allow you to search scenarios including starts with, contains, exact match, and multiple inputs.
Starts With*
Enter an * after the characters you know are in the name. For example, Mar* will find Mari, Mary, or Marionette, pets, and addresses that start with Mar.
*Contains*
Enter an * before and after the known characters.
"Exact Match"
Enter quotations around the text you are searching for.
Multiple Inputs
Enter search criteria separated by a space to consider multiple inputs in the search. For example, if you know you have a pocket pet client with the last name Rodrigez, you could search Rodrigez pocket to increase your chances of finding the right client.
Selecting a specific field to search on will improve search speeds and accuracy.

Searching for an Inactive Client/Patient
Enter the search criteria and check the option Include Inactive. Inactive clients who appear in the search results will display "Inactive" in the Status column.
Additional Search Criteria Considerations:
- For group practices, the search results will display matches from all the practices in the group.
- When a patient has more than one owner/client, the patient's name will appear for each owner (i.e., Fluffy - Ben Jones, Fluffy - Jen Jones).
Results Ranking:
Based on the search filter and search string, results will be displayed in a ranked order. Based on the information already known for the search, select the best filter to obtain the results you want.
Examples of ranking:
- Formatted results start populating once two values have been entered in the search field and dynamically updates as you enter more values.
- If no match is found, a “No results found” message will be displayed.
- Search results will be ranked or ordered based on the closest match to the search string.
- Result values matching your search criteria will be highlighted.
